Gwyneth Paltrow has been accused by a leading scientist of “spouting loopy nonsense” after claiming shampoo causes cancer in babies.
The screen star, 36, said in her website Goop she was “seized with fear” at learning of the risk from a range of household items, including toys, carpets and cleaning products.
But Hugh Pennington, Emeritus Professor of bacteriology at Aberdeen University, scoffed: “It annoys me when celebrities use their position to spout nonsense.
“They have a perfect right to their views, even if they are loopy.
“But shampoo is perfectly safe – unless you drink it in large quantities.”
In some ways Gwyneth is right because when i give my pretend son a bath he swallows at least half a gallon of shampoo, why i use that much shampoo is beyond explaining.
