Actress Kim Basinger has hired a bodyguard for her 11-year-old daughter after a voice-mail tirade by her father, actor Alec Baldwin, was made public last week, Basinger’s spokeswoman said on Monday.

The divorced couple’s bitter six-year custody battle over their only daughter, Ireland, burst into the open last Thursday when the celebrity Web site TMZ.com posted a recording of a blistering phone message Baldwin had left the child, calling her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.”

Call me crazy but i think hiring a bodyguard because of that crazy voice mail is overreacting, good move on Kim Basinger’s part though. Oh i gotta protect my daughter blah blah blah, that douche isn’t that crazy.

Baldwin was so moved by a March 4 New York Times story about Pvt. Resha Kane’s last day with family and friends before going for training to prepare for serving in Iraq that he - not his people - tracked down Kane’s mother at a discount store where she works to offer his assistance, his spokesman said.

“I didn’t know what to say,” said Patricia Kane, Resha Kane’s mother. “And then I asked him if he could send me his autograph. I’ve never met a star, let alone talked to one on the phone.”

That is very very nice and kind of Alec to do but i got a feeling he did this because he is a known war critic, and the next time someone says “you don’t support the troops” he can always pull out this card. I have a cousin headed to Iraq in a few weeks (HUCK!) so please don’t tell me I’m against the troops or hate America whatever.
