Taking a break from his energetic routine, Michael turned to his photographer pal Kevin Mazur and shouted, “I am so excited! Why oh why have I left it so long?” He later said excitedly, “This is what it’s all about. Me being on stage.”
“The only thing missing is my fans, my people, my family – they will come. I know they will. I am so happy with how things are going!” This infectious excitement makes what was to come all the more tragic. Kevin remembers that Jacko kept yelling into the small audience, “I’m so alive! I feel as though I want to perform forever.” Long-time friend Kevin explains, “I have never seen him so happy. You could tell he was excited.” The photographer has rubbished claims that the star was taking drugs, saying, “He was totally there – 100 per cent. When I found out he was dead it took the wind out of me.”
